CHILD & FAMILY SERVICES

FOUNDATION PARTNERS

How Foundation Partners make a difference:
We recognize that a foundation may be an institution, but its members are people with hearts, compassion, and the desire to do good in the world.

By contributing to Child & Family Services, foundations are able to have a direct and positive impact on the lives of people who are struggling. By design, Child & Family exists to help people through trying times. No one comes to us because things are perfect in their lives. They come to us in times of trouble and when life is weighing them down to the point where they need help to find their way through. Our Foundation Partners ensure that people in need get the help they need.

CFS programs and projects which depend on foundation support are:

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater New Bedford
  • Caring Network – help for children traumatized by domestic or community violence
  • CapeNet – help for abused children
  • Adoption
  • Young Parent Support
  • Agency Technology Project

How Foundations help: Big Brothers Big Sisters
Foundation contributions give at-risk kids a greater chance of success now and in the future. Support enables us to match at-risk youth with caring mentors. Ours is a high impact program that works to improve all areas of a child’s life: from school work to relationships with family and peers to teaching children to make positive choices.

How Foundations help: Caring Network
The Caring Network is funded through a matching grant from the Massachusetts Victims of Crime Acts office. Matching grants from foundations help children struggling with nightmares, traumatic flashbacks, fear, anxiety and other problems that arise after witnessing violence in their homes or communities, get the help they need.

How Foundations help: CapeNet
CapeNet is funded through a matching grant from the Massachusetts Victim of Crime Acts office. Matching grants from foundations help children (and their non-offending family members) who are victims of serious physical abuse, sexual assault and / or have witnessed family violence.

How Foundations help: Young Parent Support (YPS)
Being a parent is a challenge at any age. For young parents, lacking many of the life skills and experience that come with age, the responsibilities of  being a mother or father is even more daunting. Through group sessions and hands-on lessons, YPS teaches young parents to be good parents who can provide safe, stable and loving homes for their children.

How Foundations help: Adoption
This program is near and dear to our hearts. Long before we were “Child & Family Services,” we were the “New Bedford Orphans Home” which opened in 1843 to help children left homeless and without families during the whaling era. While our name and our level of services have changed and evolved over the years, our commitment to helping children who need loving homes find them remains the same.

Child & Family Services:

  • is the largest provider of special needs adoptions in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • specializes in sibling group adoptions

Foundation support helps ensure that children in need have what all children deserve – a loving family.
